about

You can download this for £1.00. I will donate 50pence of that to The Royal British Legion, so it's a good thing that you're doing! And, if you feel like it, you can pay more, I will still only retain 50pence.

I wrote 'A Soldier's Tale' with my Grandfather in mind.
He died in the Battle Of Cambrai, 1917. He never got to see his son, my father.
Although this song is a personal one, there must have been many thousands of poor souls in the same circumstances.
I do not touch on the politics or ethics of World War One, but, merely, try to tell the story of one soldier, yet many.

lyrics

I am a soldier of the King,
I took his coin of alliegance.
I left a boy and now I'm a man,
Earnt by much a grievance.

I am a soldier of the King,
I take my leave tomorrow.
I have a child I've never seen,
Born into much sorrow.

Oh my friends, they have gone,
Oh my friends
Lying in mud of Flanders,
Lying in mud of Flanders.

I am a soldier of the King,
A rat trapped in a burrow,
The sky does dance with sulpher light,
But, I'll be gone tomorrow.

I am a soldier of the King,
Layed to rest in Flanders.
